The Ministry of Agriculture promotes silk
The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives has announced the promotion of silk production as a soft power, promoting processing, adding value, expanding planting areas, and generating income for farmers.
Mr. Ekkapap Polsue, spokesperson for the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, revealed that Mrs. Narumon Pinyosinwat, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, visited Chiang Mai Province on November 30, 2024, to inspect the implementation of the “Market-Leading, Innovation-Driven, Income-Increasing” policy and the upgrading of high-value products and services of the Sericulture Department. The Sericulture Department, established by the initiative of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother, operates in accordance with the royal initiative of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother. The center operates in accordance with the royal initiative of 25 Sericulture Centers in Honor of Her Majesty the Queen. The Chiang Mai Center’s mission is to conserve, research, and develop high-quality mulberry varieties and silkworm eggs, providing services, and promoting and caring for mulberry farmers. The center covers Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Lampang, and Mae Hong Son provinces. In Chiang Mai, there are a total of 97 mulberry farmers growing mulberry trees on 205 rai of mulberry planting area.
